Kurt Wolff-Klammer

Kurt Wolff-Klammer Biography

Woodturning is my hobby and is my creative outlet.  My profession is a high school math teacher.    I learned woodturning by taking a couple classes at the Chicago School of Woodworking.  I continued learning by joining the group Chicago Woodturners.  I recommend others to join groups like the Chicago Woodturners to help them learn more about Woodturning.  I want to make woodturning more than just a hobby.  I have sold many of my turnings in craft shows and holiday markets.  While I enjoy making and selling my items, I want to continue to combine my talents as a teacher and a wood turner and teach more demos to others.  I have been honored to be published by American Woodturning Journal were I have written two articles.

Demonstration Topics

Umbrella ornament

The ornament is a mixture of a natural edge bowl and a finial.  We will start by creating a natural edge bowl.  This will also include considerations in design.  This will be followed by making both the top and bottom finials.  Creating the finial design will be discussed.  The discussion will include both for the ornament and making finials for vases and boxes.  Lastly, assembly and finishing the ornaments will be introduced.

Earrings

The earrings will start with introducing the tools and findings (hardware) you will need to get started.  We will work on a couple sets of earrings including discs, tear drops, and Christmas trees.  We will start by making simple shapes and learn how to duplicate these shapes.  We will followed by learning more complex shapes and duplicating patterns.   We will learn how to assemble and apply finish to the earrings.  Lastly, how to store and display the earring for sale.
